The submerged parts of ships such as propeller, shaft, rudder shovel, keel, drift... are protected against electrolytic corrosion by anodes. Electrolytic corrosion, also called electrolysis, is a deterioration of the metals caused by the formation of an electric current between submerged metals of different potential : the metal of less potential (anode) is decomposed instead of the most potential metal (metal parts also called cathodes). La nature of the water where the boat is tied will affect the action of the anode.
