Electrolytic corrosion, also called electrolysis , is a deterioration of metals caused by the formation of an electric current between immersed metals of different potential: the metal of lower potential (anode) decomposes instead of the metal of higher potential (metal parts called also cathodes). The nature of the water where the boat is moored will affect the action of the anode.
